Appreciative Inquiry: a powerful engagement approach for 21st century healthcare leaders

Leadership for the 21st century is about seeing and releasing the best in people, in the work that we do and in our communities.  Leaders around the world are recognizing the need to find new ways to engage, inspire and sustain the human side of change, and are adopting Appreciative Inquiry (AI).

  • Susan DerbyAI is a dialogic, strength-based, holistic approach to change. It is a collaborative search to identify and understand an organization’s strengths, its potentials, its greatest opportunities, and people’s hopes for the future. AI is a philosophy, a system, and a methodology.   Most importantly AI is a unique invitation - an invitation to bring people together to create the future they care about by innovating on top of the very best of the past.

This highly interactive workshop will help participants to view leadership within healthcare through the lens of Appreciative Inquiry (AI).

“It could be argued that all leadership is appreciative leadership. It’s the capacity to see the best in the world around us, in our colleagues, and in the groups we are trying to lead. It’s the capacity to see the most creative and improbable opportunities in the marketplace. It’s the capacity to see with an appreciative eye the true and the good, the better and the possible.”
~~ Dr. David Cooperrider, founder of Appreciative Inquiry

Workshop participants will:

  • Be introduced to the principles and application of Appreciative Inquiry (AI)
  • Engage in an interactive AI experience on the topic of leadership
  • Learn some new concepts that can be applied in daily work in every conversation:  one-to-one, staff meetings, and even in your conversations with patients, families, in your community and in your personal life
  • Hear first-hand how healthcare organizations around the world are applying Appreciative Inquiry
  • Begin to envision how to ignite new kinds of strategic conversation within the LHIN.
