Profile: Joseph Bisnaire was born in Pointe-aux-Roches, Ontario but has resided in Windsor since 1955. The father of three and grandfather of four, Mr. Bisnaire worked for the CIBC for three years before attending l’École normale of l’Université d’Ottawa where he obtained his teacher’s qualifications. Mr. Bisnaire is also a graduate of the University of Windsor (Bachelor of Arts majoring in communications – 1973). He taught in the elementary French catholic systems of Windsor and Essex County for nearly 35 years where he held positions of teacher; teacher-librarian and principal.
Joseph Bisnaire has always been actively involved in the community, having been a member of and chairing a number of organizations among them: the Windsor-Essex Bilingual Legal Clinic; the Southwest Regional Council of TVOntario; Place Concorde-Centre Communautaire Windsor-Essex; l’Association des Enseignants Franco-Ontariens (Regional and also Essex unit); the Board of Directors of AEFO provincial; the Board of Governors of the Ontario Teachers’ Federation; EQAO Advisory Council; the Advisory Committee of the Research Centre for Franco-Ontarian Studies of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education.
Mr. Bisnaire is currently a member of the Provincial Community Committee for TFO. Elected to the Conseil Scolaire de District Des Écoles Catholiques du Sud-Ouest upon retirement in 1997 and re-elected since then, Mr Bisnaire served as vice-chair and chair, and was named as its representative to the Board of Directors of the Provincial Association (AFOCSC) where he served as vice-chair and then as chair for four years. He was nominated by the AFOCSC to the Canadian Catholic School Trustees Association as its representative and currently chairs the Special Education Committee for this Board.
A lover of music, Joseph organized from 1981 to 1988 a talent show called “La Boîte à Chansons” to showcase and promote local talent, and served as a member of Mayor John Millson’s SOS committe to save our television station.
His favourite activities are photography, tennis, music and reading.
