Barb Bjarneson, born in Windsor, is a graduate of the University of Windsor (Bachelor of Arts in Political Science).
She has been very involved in her community, serving on a number of Boards and Committees including: Vice President - Board of Director, Multi-Cultural Council of Windsor/Essex County; Chair - Carrousel of the Nations; Chair - Windsor Environmental Advisory Committee; Member - Canadian Detroit River Clean Up Committee and Chair - Public Involvement and Communications Sub Committee. Barb has also been a member of the Canadian Pension Plan Review Tribunal and the License Appeal Tribunal. She currently serves on the Planning Advisory Committee for the City of Windsor and is Chair of TD Friends of the Environment Committee.
Barb’s interest in health care began when she was employed as the Information Officer and Continuity of Care Assistant at Windsor Regional Hospital (Western Campus) and continued with her participation in the “Improving Community Health” project; a Member of Cancer Care Ontario (S.W. Region) and Member - Essex, Kent, Lambton District Health Council, where Barb also served as Chair. In addition, she has served on the Erie St. Clair Community Care Access Centre (ESC CCAC) Board as Vice Chair and Chair - Quality Committee until her appointment to the LHIN Board.
Barb is the recipient of the Citizenship Award from The Windsor/Essex County Lung Association; a Volunteer Service Award from the Province of Ontario and is this year’s Community Impact Award Recipient from Leadership Windsor/Essex.
Barb Bjarneson is one of 11 people in Ontario who have been awarded the 2012 June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Voluntarism. “Named after the late June Callwood, CC, O.Ont., LL.d, this award recognizes individuals and groups for superlative contributions to their communities and the province of Ontario. Up to 20 individuals and/or groups receive this award each year. Ms. Callwood was a Canadian journalist, author and social activist. She committed her life to action on social justice issues, particularly those related to women and children. She founded, or co-founded, more than 50 Canadian social action organizations”. Barb, as you know, is a very active volunteer in our community and beyond.
She enjoys serving on the LHIN Board and continuing her deep commitment to improving the patient experience and the health care system.
